SpaceMonitor Documentation
Version
This is SpaceMonitor, version 1.3.1
SpaceMonitor is freeware.
Overview
SpaceMonitor is a very helpful application that shows the remaining
space on each mounted volume. SpaceMonitor also includes a CD player,
and can play audio CDs automatically when you insert them.
Here's a screenshot:
Installation
Installing SpaceMonitor is not difficult. You just have to
copy the executable where you want. I suggest the directory:
"/boot/home/config/bin".
If you want SpaceMonitor to be
launched at boot time, you should call it in the file:
"/boot/home/config/boot/UserBootscript".
Just add the line: "SpaceMonitor &" in that file.
Features
- The status bars are updated every 0.5s (by default). This delay
can be set from 0.1s to 2s.
- You have a CD player instead of a status bar if you insert an audio CD.
- You can tell SpaceMonitor to play the audio CD automatically when you insert
it, and launch the real CD player (if you don't like mine).
- The window is automatically updated when a volume is mounted
or unmounted.
- The color of the status bar depends of the type of the volume:
- Green for the ram.
- Yellow for the bfs.
- Red for the removable devices.
- Blue for the other file systems(fat, fat32, ext2...).
- Grey for the read-only devices.
- The size of the volume is shown when you put the mouse on
the corresponding StatusBar.
- When you click on a StatusBar, a pop-up menu appears that
allows you to:
- Unmount the device.
- Open it with the tracker.
- The window snapps to edges.
- The window remembers its position in all the workspaces.
- All the settings, including the window position are saved in the attributes
(no file in "/boot/home/config/settings/").
History
Version 1.3.1
05/02/2000
-
The icon changed. Thanks to Pedro Pablo Ramirez.
-
The window didn't memorize its position properly in the previous version.
-
Sometimes, the bubbles were empty when SpaceMonitor was launched from the UserBootscript.
Version 1.3
04/22/2000
-
SpaceMonitor now has an icon and a home page.
-
Volume unmounting is now done by sending a BMessage to the tracker. This is
much faster, it will eject the disk if you are unmounting one, and it will
tell you if it cannot unmount the volume.
-
There was a memory leak when the volumes were unmounted and the bitmap was
used as background.
-
It is now possible to avoid the cdda and WON.
-
SpaceMonitor now includes a CD player.
-
SpaceMonitor can play the audio CD automatically when you insert it, and
launch the real CD player (if you don't like mine).
-
The window keeps its position when the resolution is changed.
Version 1.2
11/08/1999
-
SpaceMonitor didn't notice any volume mounted or unmounted after
you have mounted or unmounted a read-only volume such as a
cd-rom drive or a read-only floppy.
-
You can tell SpaceMonitor to show or not, the read-only devices and
the shared ones.
-
A ghost window appeared in the top left corner when you switched
to a workspace you had not visited before.
-
SpaceMonitor now remembers the position of the window, and its width
in all the workspaces when you unselect "Same position in all workspaces".
-
No more problem when you have workspaces with different resolutions.
-
The ram bar doesn't show and hide ten times if you click ten times
quickly on the "Show ram" box.
Version 1.1
11/01/1999 (no public release)
-
The window was opened at a wrong position when it has to snap at the bottom.
-
There is no more flickering when the window is resized.
-
The texture doesn't disappear under the size label when it's updated.
-
SpaceMonitor didn't save the position of its window on shutdown.
Version 1.01
10/29/1999
-
SpaceMonitor sometimes crashed when a volume was mounted or unmounted.
-
The window was moved when a volume was mounted or unmounted in some cases.
